Should I remove Carbohydrates from my diet?

16 May

No.  Carbohydrates (carbs) provide the fuel (energy) the body needs to function properly.  If you eliminate that energy source, the body will turn to another source for energy (stored fat).  Like everything there are good and bad carbs.  The good carbs are fruit, vegetables, beans and nuts.  The bad carbs are white bread, certain pastas, donuts, bagels and muffins.  Fruit, beans, vegetables and nuts contain nutritional value that our body need like fiber, vitamins and minerals.  Who does not need a little fiber, vitamins and minerals in their diet?  We all do.  On the contrary, a person who removes carbs from their diet may experience low energy, constipation, headaches, digestive problem and muscle cramps.  Not to mention, that they are limiting their food selection.  Let’s compare an apple to a donut.  A glazed Dunkin Donut contains 260 calories, 130 calories from fat and dietary fiber is 1g.  An apple contains 78 calories, 0 calories from fat and dietary fiber is 3.6g.  Wow, the numbers speak for themselves.  In conclusion Fitness Family, you do not have to remove all carbs from your diet.
